Works for Me Wednesday 4/22/09

I received a great product from my prayer pal at church. It's called a Life Journal. It is designed to help you with your bible studies. This is definitely an area that I struggle with. I know that this will help me in my christian life, its hard for me to find time to fit it into my life. When I got this gift on Easter Sunday, I was so excited. This week we have Revival going on at my church, I was really convicted on Monday that I have to read my Bible everyday. So, I came home and turned the TV off and read my Bible before I went to bed. I am a night owl, so for me reading at night works better. So even on a really busy week, with Revival every night, I had time to read my Bible, I'm very proud of myself, its a good start I just got to keep it up.
The Life Journal gives you a one year reading plan. I am giving it a try, but was really unsure if I should start on 4-20 or 1-1. I started on 4-20, but with this reading plan you read 2-3 different books every day. I personally prefer to read multiple chapters in one book, but I'm going to give it a try for a month and see how I feel. The Life Journal has pages for you to write down what you read, they also give you the SOAP acrostic, which is Scripture, Observation, Application to your life, and Prayer. It also has a Table of Contents to record your reading and what you learned so you can quickly and easily refer back to it. The one I received came in a leather cover, but it has a removable book so when I fill up this book I can replace it with a new one.

Works for me Wednesday

Over at we are that family she is doing Works for me wednesday, the backwards edition. I love the idea of this. So the premise is you ask a question and others try to answer your question.

My question is about gardening. I really want to have a garden this year. I already have an area in my yard that was a garden before I moved in. I know that you need to till (?) the ground, then plant. But how do you know what to plant? What order to plant them in? I tried to make a garden a couple years ago. I did really good and planted stuff, I even kept up the garden for a couple weeks, they started growing, or sprouting a little bit. Then I forgot about them and didn't water them. How often do you water the garden? My friend also told me that I planted fall plants...Whats the difference? I live in Oklahoma, if that matters, I'm not sure. I don't keep things alive very well, I think my dogs are only alive because they whine when they are hungry. I am really a very bright person, but common sense, doesn't work for me, so I need very detailed instructions, which I haven't been able to find. Please help!

Works for me Wednesday 10/29/2008

I am trying to lose weight right now. I usually struggle with what to drink other than soda. I am trying to cut out soda or at least minimize it in my diet. But water gets so boring. I found some drink mix packets at Walgreens. Its an off brand but it was only a dollar for a box of 8. So I bought a couple to keep at work and in my purse. When I get tired of water I can put one of these into the water to give it some flavor and then I don't have to go get a soda from the gas station. Making Ahead

One of the things I have been trying to do a lot of lately is making things ahead and freezing them. I recently made 19 cups of vegetable stock, which is stored in my freezer in one cup bags. Last night my tomatoes were going bad so I made up a batch of marinara sauce and froze it. I also made up some pizza dough last night and put into the fridge so that is ready for me to take and bake it up when I get home from work. It is so much easier to make meals at home when half the work is already done and waiting on you. This definitely works for me.

Works for me Wednesday 10/15/08

I carry a small notebook in my purse. I found one at Target on clearance for .95 it stays in my purse at all times. I use it to write down what I have eaten and the calories. When I'm at the computer I log what I have eaten into wellness360. You can also read health articles that interest you, and they usually stay up on the latest going on in the world. You can fill out a health assessment which saves your information in the case of an emergency. It is a very cool website. One of the best things is that you can earn money by entering your information in. You are not going to earn a ton of money but I love being able to enter in my food intake and exercise and it adds it up for me, and I know how much I am allowed to eat for the day.

List

I have always made lists for everything, and my husband thinks they are unnecessary. My lists help me remember what to do and not get sidetracked. We are putting together a fall festival at our church, we usually help out but this year we are in charge of it. So we made a list of the games, then I made a list of the games plus the materials needed. Then I made another list of just materials that I need so that I can gather them up. He thinks 3 lists for the same thing is ridiculous. I however find it crazy not to.
I have always made a grocery list to go shopping with, if I go into a store without one I get overwhelmed. I don't know what my menu is or what coupons that I have. So I don't buy what I need just the things that I want. At work I make a to do list for the week, then I can cross off or add to the list as needed. The last couple of weeks I have been making lists for things I want to accomplish on Saturdays. It has definitely made me more productive at home.

Works for Me Wednesday

This is the kitchen edition of Works for me wednesday.

The Debbie Meyer Green Bags work for me in the kitchen. They really do keep your fruit and vegetables fresh for longer. I had Romaine lettuce last for 3 weeks without getting slimy. They are also reuseable. I bought a box for 9.99 at CVS (with one of their great coupons) and it has lasted me going on 2 months now. I love that these actually work. I hate wasting money throwing away vegetables. These are going to be christmas gifts for some of my family.
