Walgreens Earth Day Purchase

I made it to Walgreens yesterday to use my coupon. Here's what I got (sorry no picture)
  • 2 Glade Soy Candles $5.99 ea 1 $4 and 2 $2
  • 1 sm pack Kleenex $.69
  • Reusable shopping bag Free with coupon, plus 15% off

I miscalculated, I thought the 15% off was on 1 item, so I needed the tissues, plus I was going to use it for filler. When she scanned my coupon, it took 15% off everything, which was great and I should have done more shopping when she told me that. But because I was on my lunch break and sick and out of it, my total after all the coupons was $3.74 with tax so she couldn't use my other $4 coupon for the Glade because the total of course was less than $4. I was very disappointed later that night when I had gotten some rest and realized what happened. I should have thrown in a Free RR item. Oh well, next time I will definitely read the coupon a little better. I hope you all had better luck with your coupons.

Shopping Trip

I really have to get into the habit of taking pictures when I get home. This week has just been a crazy week. I went to the grocery store a couple times for one or two items. I haven't done a good shopping trip yet.
At Homeland I picked up some of the sale items and stuff that we needed:
  • Cottonelle $4.09 (no coupons for 1 4 pk)
  • Wishbone Dressing $2.00 -$.75 double = $.50
  • Quaker Oatmeal 2 $3.98 -$1.00/2 double =$1.98
  • Bell Peppers 4 $2.76
  • Old Spice Deodorant 2 $2.98 -$1.00 double =$.98
  • Hormel Pepperoni $1.98 -$.35 double =$1.29
  • Ronzoni Pasta $1.69 (supposed to be on sale $.85 didn't realize it wasn't)
  • Deli counter $4.87 for husband Dinner that night

Total Spent $19.86

Coupons used $3.10 and $3.10 doubled

Saved: $14.39 (44%)

After church last night we had to get dog food, I am out of coupons so I really hope some more come out this weekend. At Walmart

  • Dog Food $11.42
  • 2 Tonys Pizzas $5.00
  • Crackers $2.50
  • Cheese $1.98

Total Spent $22.53

Weekly Budget $50.00, Spent $42.39, $7.67 Remaining of budget.

I hate how a quick trip for one item turns into $20 spent. This is what happens when you are too busy to go grocery shopping. Hopefully my days will calm down soon and I will make it the store

Walgreens

I was going through all my coupons to get rid of all the expired coupons, as I was cleaning I ran across the $4 Maybelline coupons I had 2 and they expired today. So I quickly ran to Walgreens and picked up
  • 2 Maybelline Lipstick $6.99 B1G1 1/2 off
  • 2 Ben & Jerrys Ice cream 2/$6
  • 1 Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino 2.59

I used

  • 2 $4 off Maybelliene
  • 2 $3 off Ben & Jerrys

My total for all of this was 6.56 including tax. Not bad for a quick trip.

Rewards Programs

As I've been out shopping this year, I have been signing up for rewards programs. One that I signed up for is Hibbett Sports. This is a store that we go into at least once a month. They have stores across the country. When you watch videos or look at catalogs online, they give you points. You also get 1 point for every dollar you spend. After you hit 350 points you get a coupon. You also get a 20% off coupon when you sign up. I originally got on their website looking for coupons.
I also signed up for Finish Line reward program. For every $200 you spend in the store you get a $20 gift certificate. I am already half way there with my first purchase. If a company that I already spend money with wants to reward me for buying things I am already going to buy I will take it.

Shopping with my husband

On Monday I didn't feel like going grocery shopping, but there was a threat of bad weather and we had nothing in our house to survive on if we were shut in for a few days. (The way the weather people were talking that's what was going to happen.) So, I asked my husband to go with me and help me, which he so sweetly did. I had a list planned out, I had a menu planned out, but he doesn't like to go all over town to save money. So we went to Walmart to do the shopping. We got a lot of groceries, things we needed, and things that looked good because we were both hungry when we went. When it was rang up, I only had a few coupons to use, so I knew I wasn't going to like the total. It came to $120. I used $4 in coupons. When we left, I was upset because I knew that I could have gotten better deals at other stores, and spent a lot less. My husband doesn't go shopping with me much because I am willing to go to 3 stores (not far apart) to get good deals. My husband actually made the comment that we haven't done any real grocery shopping in a long time...I do this every week by stockpiling sales and using coupons. He just normally doesn't pick out what he wants, I ask his opinion when I make the menu, and sometimes he tells me what he wants other times he says he doesn't care. I am so used to trying to shop with $50 a week $120 for about a weeks worth of food, and nothing stockpiled seemed crazy to me, but normal to him because that's what we used to do a couple times a month. I love my way of shopping and saving money, and as soon as all the busyness with Christmas is gone I am hoping to get back on a budget of some sort in January.

Walgreens 11/15/2008

I did not get everything I had planned on getting. But I did pretty well.

I got:
  • 3 boxes Christmas cards 3.99
  • 4 bottles of Creamer 4.98
  • 2 cans of pure pumpkin 1.99
  • 2 4 pk cottonelle tp 5.00
  • 1 small cont honey 1.00
  • 1 bag sunflower seeds 1.00
  • 1 pecan roll (husband) 1.69
  • 1 can Resolve 5.99
  • 1 can Shaving Cream 2.49

Coupons used:

  • 2 - 1.50 for 2 bottles creamer
  • 1 - .50 pumpkin for 2
  • 2 - .25 Cottonelle
  • 1 - 2.00 Resolve
  • 1 -5.00/20 purchase

Total with Tax: 18.92 (OOP)

So I didn't do too bad. I got quite a bit of stuff that I needed. I was about 3 dollars short of 20 so my husband and I looked around to find something to add which is why we got the pecan roll and shaving cream. All the Walgreens here in my area take down the sales advertisements on Saturday. It is very frustrating because you don't know what product exactly is on sale. I went today at 12:30 and all the ads from last week were already taken down. Does anyone else have this happen? I know that they are missing out on sales because of it. I wanted to get a bunch of the Christmas stuff but my husband didn't want to go through the ad while we were in the store and find what is on sale.

The last 2 weeks I have had problems at Walmart with coupons so I am frustrated with them.

Stockpiling

I have been trying to build a stockpile lately. One of my first questions was, What should go in a stockpile? I want it to be something useful, so I sat down and looked at many of the recipes that I make regularly. One thing that I use a lot of (more than I realized) is beans. My favorites are black beans and chickpeas. I also use kidney beans, pinto beans and chili beans. I make a lot of soup and chili so vegetable stock and canned tomatoes are pretty popular in my recipes. I also like to have frozen vegetables in my freezer. I also like to keep hamburger meat in my freezer as well as chicken. I also eat a lot of whole wheat pasta. Anytime I find these items on sale I buy extra. Toiletries are another thing that you can stock up on. I like to stockpile items that have a long shelf life and that I will use. If you are trying to build up a stockpile, look at your favorite recipes and things that you eat often and start making a list from there.

What items do you stockpile?
