Frugal Dessert

I have to bring a dessert to my church this Sunday it is our 25th anniversary dinner. Since I am on the 30 days of nothing challenge I want to make something that doesn't cost too much but will also be good.

Does anyone have some great dessert recipes that cost very little to make?

I'm not sure if this will fit your criteria or not but it is probably one of the least expensive dessert recipes I have. I make it in my jelly roll pan (10"x15") so it makes a large dessert. It's pretty simple and always a hit when I serve it.

Eclair cake

1 cup water
1/2 cup margarine, or butter
1 cup flour
4 eggs
1 package instant vanilla pudding and pie filling, small size
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 ounces Cool Whip®
chocolate syrup (Hershey's)

1. Bring water and margarine to a boil. Remove from heat; add flour, stir quickly with wooden spoon until ball forms. Cool to lukewarm. Stir in eggs, one at a time, blending each in until smooth. Place on ungreased cookie sheet in oven preheated to 400 F. Bake 30 minutes. Remove and let cool.

2. Mix pudding mix according to package instructions. Add softened cream cheese; mix until smooth. Spread over cooled cream puff. Refrigerate 15 minutes.

3. Spread Cool Whip over cream cheese mixture. Drizzle Hershey's chocolate syrup over cool whip. Store in refrigerator.

I came over from the soup recipe swap on Life as Mom.

This is super easy and super cheap. Make a white or yellow cake. After it is cooled, poke holes in the top. Make jello according to the package directions. Pour over the top of the cake. Refridgerate for at least 3 hours and top with Cool Whip.
